Just as we encounter endangered species under the water, we believe that our local history is also an endangered species.
Local History
Just as we encounter endangered species under the water, Eco-Photo Explorers believes that history is also an endangered species. Every time we knock down a building, or pave over a field, or build a new shopping mall or housing development, we run the risk of losing a part of our history.
Eco-Photo Explorers is devoted to helping preserve that history through our photography, written content and live presentations. Each year we commit time and resources to research our local history and deliver presentations that document the rich heritage we all share. We believe that knowledge of history helps inform the decisions of today and without that knowledge mistakes are destined to be repeated.
Our historical presentations cover such diverse topics as shipwreck and maritime history, wartime activities, Colonial and Revolutionary War era history, the unique place Long Island holds in terms of achievements and milestones, and the wide array of influential people who have found their final resting place on Long Island.
As part of this work, Eco-Photo Explorers has produced a set of presentations known as the “Historical Roadways of Long Island” series, and each of these examines our history through the lens of one of our prominent roadways. Join us as we journey through time and explore the rich and fascinating history that we all share.
